چکیده

The field of microfluidics has become increasingly important with the development of micro-fuel cells, DNA arrays, and various advancements towards the labon-a-chip concept. While researchers have proposed many methods of mixing, there has been no standardized comparison on the mixing efficiency of the proposed methods in literature. In this paper, the students implemented an image-based technique for evaluating the standardized mixing of results from a previous experiment. The results were then used as experimental validations of corresponding simulations. An additional program was developed to allow future researchers to evaluate mixing in any userdefined area of an image.

Neighbors ’ income distribution : economic segregation and mixing in US urban neighborhoods

The paper describes within-neighborhood economic segregation in U.S. metropolitan areas in 1985 and 1993. It uses the neighborhood clusters of the American Housing Survey, standardized by metropolitan area income and household size, to explore income distribution within neighborhoods at a scale much smaller than the census tract (a representative sample of households or ‘kernels’ and their ten ...

Effect of Geometry of the Grooves on the Mixing of Fluids in Micro Mixer Channel

Understanding the flow fields at the micro-scale is a key to develop methods of successfully mixing fluids for micro-scale applications. This paper investigates flow characteristics and mixing of three different geometries in micro-channel. A Circular groove micro mixer has been designed and simulated. One such channel is shown in Figure1. The geometry of the channels taken was rectangular with...

Fluid mixing in a T-shaped micro-mixer

In relation to the time-scale of chemical kinetics, diffusive transport in micro-devices is faster than in conventional mixers. To exploit the resulting potential for chemical process engineering, size effects evident in the transport processes have to be understood. For this purpose, the scaling behaviour concerning the transport of mass, momentum and heat are considered. Just as much, the mix...

Rapid mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a three-dimensional micro-mixer using non-uniform magnetic field

The mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a magnetic micro-mixer was studied numerically using  ferrofluid. The mixing process was performed in a three-dimensional steady-state micro-mixer. A magnetic source was mounted at the entrance of the micro-channel to oscillate the magnetic particles. The effects of electric current, inlet velocity, size of magnetic particles, and non-Newtonia...

Gas Mixing Simulation in a T-Shape Micro Channel Using The DSMC Method

Gas mixing in a T-shape micro mixer has been simulated using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. It is considered that the adequate mixing occurs when the mass composition of the species, CO or N2, deviates below 1 % from their equilibrium composition. The mixing coefficient is defined as the ratio of the mixing length to the main channel’s height. As the inlet Kn increases, while ...
